Glebe Elementary School Reviews

Glebe Elementary has provided a wonderful, warm, friendly, caring, creative environment for my children. I can't think of any teacher at Glebe that I would not want to teach my children and most are absolutely fabulous. The best thing about Glebe is the sense of community and the wonderful cultural diversity. Actually, I don't live in the Glebe district but I send my children there.

Glebe is often described as a secret North Arlington treasure- and I could not agree more! It is a fantastic school, with the feel of being in a small town. Everyone is friendly and know each other. The teachers are dedicated and really care for the community. The principle is accessible and is always available to both the kids and parents. When looking at a school- it is so important to realize that there is so much more than test scores. Glebe is a rich cultural community where everyone is truly cared for.

My child is new to Glebe (and public school) this year. We like the close-knit, friendly and diverse community. Most teachers are good to great, but a few seem to be 'asleep at the wheel.' Wish there was more for gifted students and high achievers who are borderline gifted. My child is very happy and learning well. Her teacher is very responsive. The school community really came together over the recent boundary issue w/the school board-- very impressive! The front office staff have been nothing but kind and helpful to us as a new family. Principal Jamie Borg is unbelievably accessible and making all the right changes given her budgetary and other restraints. Am concerned that the cafeteria is stressful and unpleasant. This is going to get worse as the school takes in 40 more kids next year. Wish PE were more of a real curriculum.

The is a neighborhood school, where both the children and parents enjoy a strong sesne of community. The teachers and principal all work well together to provide children a diverse and enriching environment. The language program and after school enrishment programs continue to improve. However recent Superindent proposals to redistrict Glebe will impact the schools conhesiveness.

This is a great school. My children are thriving and happy at Glebe. The staff seems happy and I think that the two previous comments about the principal are stretched. Mrs. Borg is still a young, new principal who is working very hard to lead a growing staff and school community. It is not an easy job to be an educator, and the staff and administration at Glebe do it the best!

I have 2 children that have graduated and one still at Glebe. I also have had a great experience at glebe and had the opportunity to experience wonderful teachers. I have to agree with the one parent concerning the Principal. I would have to say when Ms. Taub was principle the enviroment was different, she seemed to be more in control with a stronger personality. The office personnel was much nicer and there were also really good teachers durning her time. When their are changes it is usually due to the leadership.

My husband and I both love Mr. Arnold and Miss Sunny and they are working very hard with my son to try to get him to focus and behave properly.

I have a student at Glebe finishing up the first grade and I could not be happier with the teachers, school environment, parent participation, etc. My only concern is with the principal, who seems to have a hard time providing even-handed leadership to the staff and making difficult decisions. Overall, my husband and I have been very happy, however!

Glebe is a great place to learn! Children and families are deeply cared about and taken care of at Glebe. The teachers are outstanding as is the community.

Glebe is a real community treasure. We have two children at Glebe and have been delighted with the amount of careful, personal attention they receive, as well as with the detailed home-school communication. In our three years there I have seen so many students experience academic success with no pushing or pressure. Glebe is a very relaxed, family-friendly, interesting place to learn and grow!

I have a kindergarten and second grade child at Glebe. I am very pleased with their academic progress. Glebe provides my children with tools needed for success. The school environment is like a community. Everyone says 'hello'. The new school is spectacular. Enrichment activities are diverse and plentiful. PTA is amazing. They do tons of activities to enhance your child's learning experience.

I have two children presently attending Glebe. I love the sense of community and the personal attention that my children receive. Despite the fact that my children are very different learners, both have received the attention and challenges that fit their needs. What I really appreciate is that both their needs and their gifts have been recognized by their teachers. Glebe has an excellent, committed and creative staff with a high number of advanced degrees. The emphasis on integration of arts into the curriculum provides an extra advantage that not is not always found in a public school. Give this school a serious look, its beauty is much more than skin deep.

I have had two children at Glebe, one is in her last year there and the other is now a successful middle school honor student. I will be sad to leave this wonderful educational community that brings out the gifts and talents of every student. Glebe is listed as a 'Top School' by the Washington Post for its high PTA participation rate, rich cultural diversity, more experienced teachers, and small class sizes. Having experienced Glebe myself I wholeheartedly agree with the Posts rating.

There is no better school in Arlington than Glebe. This small diverse school has strong test scores, and excellent principal who has high expectations for all students and an extremely committed staff. With a totally renovated buiding which should be complete in the fall of 2004 Glebe will be a model for all area schools. This school is a gem and the parents that send their kids elsewhere without looking at what a special school this is are sadly missing out.
