Broad Run High School Reviews

As a parent of a senior at BRHS I have been happy with the highschool. I feel the staff is very willing to help and are really concerned about the students. If you ask the help is available as well as the parking.

My children go to Broad Run High School on is in 12th grade and one is in 10th grade in spechel ed. Her techers Ms Smith, Ms T and Ms Panter are all very nice.

I have 2 students at Broad Run. They have had a wonderful experience. We moved here from Fairfax 6 years ago and love it. The academics at Broad Run are strong, especially the math and Social Studies departments. Extracurriculars are strong, too; the debate team consistently wins state awards. The student body attended Farmwell Station Middle as a group and seems unusually close. Broad Run has a reputation as being one of the most spirited high schools in Loudoun County. The sports programs are good; many teams won district last year. The girls softball team was the state AA champion, & ranked 5th in the nation! The school is very safe; neither of my kids have mentioned either cliques or bullying as being issues. Teachers should work harder to raise SOL scores. Dominion HS and Park View are showing it can be done. BRHS can improve in that area.

Broad Run is, above all, a great place for kids. The academic environment is challenging, and the teachers really care about their students. In particular, the social studies department is extremely strong. The school offers a wide variety of courses including substantial AP offerings. The extracurricular programs are solid as well, witht the most successful sports being softball and the soccer teams. The debate team is a perennial state champion, and their are numerous and diverse clubs and activities available to suit students of all types. There is a major disparity in parental involvement based on which part of the student population you are considering. The community is quite affluent, and these educated, motivated parents are extremely involved. On the other hand, being in suburban Washington D.C., there has been an influx of Hispanic students, and one of the greatest challenges the school has faced has been encouraging those parents' involvement.

I am a former graduate of Broad Run, and let me just say that the first review was completely off base. There is a significant amount of parking available for students and faculty and it is a very safe school. The only ones that walk don't want to pay for the parking pass. Dr. Markly is not the most personal person I've ever met in the world, but he does a decent job as principal. The football team needs some improvement but like the other review said, we have a variety of other sports that are very good as well as a good music program. There may be little 'official' help for new students getting acquainted with the building, but the students and teachers are all willing to help new students adjust. I'm going to be a teacher, and I'd be happy teach at and have my own children attend BRHS.

They are not great with new students. Not much introduction nor do they show students around much. New students are left on their own. There is no parking and students are expected to park in neighborhoods or shopping centers and walk to school. This isn't very safe and no one really seems to care. We spoke to numerous faculty and students. The principal hardly gave us the time of day. Academically, it's an average school. We are not impressed.

I am actaully a student at BRHS and I love it there! Our football team might not be the best (at all) but we have a great soccer, softball/baseball, basketball, gymnastics, and debate program. Plus, everyone at Broad Run is really friendly and teachers are very willing to help out if you have problems or questions!
